Welcome to the TeamRKT interactive map!
Hi there!
We're TeamRKT — a group of four 6th formers who took part in the Astro Pi 2020 competition organised by the European Space Agency and the Raspberry Pi Foundation.
We designed an experiment using the Raspberry Pi onboard the International Space Station to capture images of aquatic ecosystems, using a near-infrared camera. We wanted to study the incidence and growth of HABs, and test hypotheses on what could have caused them — by processing the images using an NDVI filter in order to identify vegetation in the water.
HABs have been associated with mass fish kills, wildlife mortality, as well as liver failure and irreversible neurological disease in humans due to toxins produced by the algae.
Using Leaflet, an open-source JS library to create interactive maps, we have created a map that facilitates previewing of down-scaled AstroPi captures alongside very useful information, such as an ID number for each capture. We hope this website could help future teams to find inspiration and see what can be done once the data is collected.
